Rainy day funds can avoid cuts

Now that the economy is showing signs of rebounding, it's clearly time to use the rainy day funds to balance the state budget and move forward without more wholesale cutting of public services. Doug Racine seems to be the only candidate for governor who advocates this reasonable solution to the state's current budget debate. Other legislators are willing to go home for the summer with a $20 million hole in the budget.
They were not elected to leave town early before they finish the work of the state. They must understand that Gov. Douglas will not miss any opportunity to cut more public services or come after state workers once again. It is incumbent on them to use the rainy day funds to prevent further decimation of our state government.
