Rainy day funds can avoid cuts

Toolbox

Published: May 6, 2010

Now that the economy is showing signs of rebounding, it's clearly time to use the rainy day funds to balance the state budget and move forward without more wholesale cutting of public services. Doug Racine seems to be the only candidate for governor who advocates this reasonable solution to the state's current budget debate. Other legislators are willing to go home for the summer with a $20 million hole in the budget.

They were not elected to leave town early before they finish the work of the state. They must understand that Gov. Douglas will not miss any opportunity to cut more public services or come after state workers once again. It is incumbent on them to use the rainy day funds to prevent further decimation of our state government.

none none,

Do you mean Mexicans would not be seeing work in the US if NAFTA had not forced them off their own farms in Mexico?

"Hundreds of thousands of farmers clogged central Mexico City Thursday with their slow-moving tractors, protesting the entry of cheap imported corn from the United States and Canada."

Por favor conteste en inglés.

Jest

Sorry but the economy is far from rebounding, I will give you credit that it's not going any further in the hole at the moment but the few things you mention do very little for the economy in its present shape.

I do agree with Emile that there are plenty of programs that need to be cut and budgets tightened up on. I know you don't agree Jest because you are all for the free handouts.

Rebounding? I don't think so....and when the rainy day funds are used up...then what is going to be left? Save the rainy day funds!

Emile, you need to get outside more. Rebounding 401k and IRA accounts and a vibrant stock market, 450 new jobs at IBM and Dealer.com, a new store coming to Berlin, building projects all over New England funded by the President's programs ... while not perfect yet, we're making a comeback rather than going further into the tank like we were 1 1/2 years ago. Smile, Emile. Things are getting better.

And, Emile, social service programs are in even more need during bad times. This is not the time to cut programs if you are right.

Bill, what can I say, man. Get some help. You are one cranky old guy with a broken record for a message.

Arthur .. where are you reading that the economy is rebounding? It is far from it. I disagree with you ... there are many social service programs that should be eliminated or curtailed. If those who receive such services don't work, they should be on the farms and orchards working, not illegals.

We need people in government that will obey the Constitutions. There is no one that is running that fills the bill!

The demcrats and republicans have driven this country onto the rocks.

Rainy day funds are illegal investments of the peoples money by democrats and republicans. Rainy day funds life all other state investments cannot be withdraw because that will undermine the success of the corporations.

The legislature has violated the Constitution by using the rainy day funds for illegitimate purposes. Raising tax money in this state if limited to the purpose of protecting our "rights to the enjoyment of life, liberty and property."

The democrats and republcians legislatures have ignored their legislative powers that prevent them from "adding to, altering, abolishing, or infringing on any part of this Constitution"

The republican and democratic party system must be destroyed.

The European Central Bank President is gave a speech entitled "Why we need global governance"

This is a proposal to overthrow our Constitutional form of government.

Republicans and Democrats have betrayed the American people by failing to adhere to the US and Vt Constitutions.
