BARRE (AP) — The national drug czar will be among the witnesses to testify next week in Vermont when the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee holds a field hearing in Barre about drug crimes.
Gil Kerlikowske, director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy, will join Barre's mayor, the head of the Vermont State Police and a representative of the Washington County Youth Service Bureau on Monday in addressing the panel, which is chaired by U.S. Sen. Patrick Leahy.
The hearing will examine the efforts of Barre and surrounding communities to fight drug-related crime. It will be held at 9:30 a.m. at the Barre City Auditorium.
In 2008, the committee held two similar field hearings before in Vermont — one in St. Albans and one in Rutland.
