SOUTH BURLINGTON — The U.S. Air Force is planning to hold a hearing next month in South Burlington to discuss the possible basing of its next generation fighter at the Burlington International Airport.

The Vermont Air National Guard base in South Burlington is one of five installations across the country being considered to host the fighter, the F-35.

The F-35 is said to be noisier than the F-16s it is designed to replace.

South Burlington City Manager Chuck Hafter tells the Burlington Free Press he expects a big crowd for the hearing.

Last month the city council asked the Air Force for a fly-by of the new jet so its sound could be compared with the F-16s.

The hearing is scheduled for April 19. The location has yet to be determined.

Great, all the dumba**s will be out to protest and we'll lose another money generating enterprise.

The sound of freedom. The sound of jobs staying here in Vermont. The sound of Vermonters being the best at something and they( US Air Force) want to give all the new tools to continue our excellence. That sweet sound of the F 35 will be sweet. And remember as well are they really and louder than any other planes that take off from Burlington International Airport. I think not. I used live in Burlington pretty much on the Flight path from airport. The F4 Phantoms were much louder. Bring the F35s to Vermont
