MONTPELIER – Montpelier led 22-11 after the first quarter and went on to earn a 55-39 boys basketball win over Thetford on Monday.
"We jumped out and played pretty well in the first half, especially in the first quarter," Montpelier coach Dave Nelson said. "Our pressure defense was pretty good. We had a goal, we wanted to hold them under 40 points, which we accomplished."
Sean Dowling tallied a game-high 14 points while teammates Sam Brigham and Nate Smith both added 11 points. Aidan King finished with 10 points for the Solons.
Montpelier improves to 11-5 and plays at Randolph on Wednesday.

BOYS BASKETBALL
U-32 60, Lyndon 42
EAST MONTPELIER – U-32 held Jimmy Lau to seven second-half points and the Raiders earned a 60-42 boys basketball win on Monday night.
Lau led all scorers with 27 points, but was defended by Raider Ryan Shea who helped hold the offensive star in check in the second half. U-32 outscored Lyndon 39-17 in the final 16 minutes.
Shea and Sam McArdle both tallied 15 points to lead U-32, and Carter Austin-Bradley added 13 points.
"Sam really stepped up tonight," U-32 coach Dan Gandin said.
U-32 improved to 13-4 and hosts Lamoille on Wednesday.

Rutland 57, MSJ 23
RUTLAND – Mount St. Joseph lost to Rutland 57-23 in high school boys basketball action on Monday.
The Raiders entered halftime with a 38-12 lead and kept the Mounties at arms length the rest of the way.
Andrew Borkowski scored 18 points and teammate Troy Davine had 10 points. The Raiders had 10 different players reach the scoring column.
Matt Sanborn had seven points for the Mounties and teammate Chris Reedy had six. Rutland improves to 14-3 and will play against Brattleboro at home on Thursday night.
Leland & Gray 60,
Green Mountain 45
CHESTER – Colin Nystrom led Leland & Gray with 16 points and he had help from Zack Peterson (12) and Matt Bixon (11) as the Rebels built a 34-13 lead by halftime and held on for a 60-45 boys basketball win over Green Mountain on Monday.
Justin Veysey led 8-10 Green Mountain with 13 points. Justin Veysey followed with 11 and Chris Ditzler had 11.
