MONTPELIER (AP) — Vermont insurance regulators say tuition insurance offered at the University of Vermont and other colleges must provide the same coverage to students who leave school for mental illness as for physical illness or injury.

The Burlington Free Press says that's not available now at some schools.

It prompted a complaint by a former UVM student and the Vermont Association for Mental Health.

Under UVM's current policy, up to 60 percent of tuition can be refunded if a student with a mental illness spends two days in a hospital. No similar requirement exists for physical ailments.

UVM Vice President Gary Derr says that next year tuition insurance will offer 80 percent coverage for both mental and physical health.
