Norwich student faces assualt charge

NORTHFIELD – A 21-year-old Norwich University student has been cited for alleged simple assault and also was issued a civil violation complaint for hazing, charges that stem from a Dec. 6 incident, according the Northfield Police Department.
Melissa Mercadante of Worcester, Mass., is scheduled to appear in Vermont District Court in Barre on March 25 to face the simple assault charge, police said in a news release.
Three other Norwich students were given civil violation complaints for hazing, police said, which stem from the same incident in which two Norwich freshmen were assaulted with icy hot and a can of hair spray.
