MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) — The state of Vermont is going to offer six new license plates for military veterans from World War II through the present conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The plates will be unveiled Thursday by Motor Vehicle Commissioner Robert Ide and Gov. Jim Douglas at the Statehouse in Montpelier.

The plates will honor veterans from World War II, the wars in Korean, Vietnam War, the Persian Gulf, Iraq and Afghanistan.

The first recipient will be Maj. Gen. Michael Dubie, the adjutant general of the Vermont National Guard who served in Iraq.

There is no additional fee for eligible veterans to receive the plates.

Ide says the veterans must have served in the combat theater that is recognized by the plate for which they apply.
