A recent editorial in your paper on closing Vermont Yankee did not mention several issues many consider major.
First. Since the power usage was increased, there has been a 10 percent increase in cancer in children in the area. I am not alone in thinking that lighting homes at the cost of the children in them is folly.
Second. Helen Caldicott came to Montpelier and demonstrated how a meltdown really could happen. The first circle of contamination would extend up to Montpelier and down almost to Boston. Dr. Caldicott said, "It is not a money issue. It's a health issue."
Compromise: VY employs 600.
