BARRE – The Vermont State Police arrested a Barre teen Thursday for allegedly stealing a vehicle in Montpelier last month and ditching it in Warren.

Jeremiah Sadler, 18, of Summer Street, was cited to appear in Vermont District Court in Barre to face a charge of operating a vehicle without the owner's consent.

The vehicle Sadler is accused of stealing was reported missing on Dec. 16. That same day, the owner found the vehicle at the East Warren Store and called police. Police responded, found the vehicle unattended and collected evidence.

The theft Sadler is charged with is part of a rash of auto thefts that have plagued the Washington County area since November. Along with the auto thefts, items have been stolen from a high number of unlocked cars.

Police reminded the public Thursday to lock their doors and not to leave keys in their car.

Police are also still seeking more information about this incident. Anyone with information can call trooper Ryan Green at 802-229-9191 or the Central Vermont Crime Stoppers at 800-529-9998.

Go to Bond Auto Parts on Summer St. There is a big concrete wall there. On the east end of the wall, there is a walk-up. Top floor, first apt on the right. Bring a card.
