Link lifts Twinfield past Concord

CONCORD – Chris Link poured in six 3-pointers and had a game-high 23 points to lift Twinfield past Concord 58-44 in boys basketball on Wednesday.
Twinfield took a 22-13 lead after the first quarter and led 29-21 at the break.
"In the second quarter, we came out a little flat," Twinfield coach Ira Wheeler said. "We stopped doing the things we usually do. We just have to be ready to play for four quarters."
Chad Copeland added 15 points and Nick Harvey finished with 11 for the 8-2 Trojans who host Williamstown on Friday at 7 p.m.
Richard Skinner led Concord with 11 points and Cody Arsenault added 10 points.

GIRLS BASKETBALL
Northfield 40, Hazen 19
HARDWICK – Hazen fell to 3-4 with a 40-19 loss to Northfield in girls basketball on Wednesday.
The win is the fourth straight for 7-1 Northfield.
Katie LaPorte led the Wildcats with six points. Jackie Susmann led all scorers with 12 points for the Marauders, and teammates Mehgan and Kaitlyn McMullen added 11 points apiece.
Northfield led 17-4 at the half but was outscored 10-8 in the fourth quarter.
Hazen will play at Danville on Friday.

BOYS HOCKEY
Woodstock 4, Northfield 0
WOODSTOCK – Woodstock blanked Northfield 4-0 in boys hockey on Wednesday.
Sophomore Connor Blair had his second start between the pipes and had 22 saves. Blair had some tough saves but for the most part the Wasps executed their defense. It was the first game all year where the Wasps, 3-7, played three disciplined periods, making good decisions and staying relatively free of turnovers. Derek Osborne had two goals and two assists, Brian Martin and Cavan Little had goals and Nico Brands added an assist.
Northfield falls to 8-3.
Milton 10,
Peoples Academy 5
MORRISVILLE – Chris Hinrichs scored five goals for Peoples Academy in the Wolves' 10-5 boys hockey loss to Milton on Wednesday.
Lukas Caldwell and Nate Allaire combined for 28 saves for the 1-9 Wolves. Peoples Academy hosts MSJ on Saturday.
Connor Irish (three goals), Parker Jenkins (two goals), Dustin Paquette (two goals, two assists), Brandon Beliveau (one assist), Andre Viens and Tyler Gingras all scored for 2-8 Milton and teammate Nikki-Lyn Lauziere made 18 saves in the loss.
GIRLS HOCKEY
U-32 5, Harwood 0
MONTPELIER – Jyneva Pickel scored twice for U-32 as the Raiders earned a 5-0 girls hockey win over Harwood on Tuesday.
Katie Kreis, Emily Aylward and Zoe Myers also scored for U-32, with Myers, Aylward, Kreis and Erica Gonyaw picking up assists.
U-32 scored twice in the first period and added three more in the second period. Ashley Vincent made eight saves for 9-0-1 U-32, which hosts North Country on Saturday at 6 p.m.
Kaitlin Daley made 18 saves for 2-6 Harwood.
Middlebury 2, Northfield 1
MIDDLEBURY – Lindsey Hunt scored an unassisted goal for Northfield to avoid a shutout in Wednesday's 2-1 girls hockey loss to Middlebury.
Stephanie Morvan and Renee Guy combined for 22 saves for 7-4 Northfield. The Marauders host Mount Mansfield on Saturday at 7 p.m.
"It was a really close, good game," Northfield coach Chris Amell said. "It was very competitive."
Middlebury improves to 5-4.
Montpelier 8, Woodstock 0
MONTPELIER – Erin Banfield scored four goals to lead Montpelier past Woodstock 8-0 in girls hockey on Wednesday.
Ali Palin scored twice for the Solons and Molly Estabrook and Jessie Gay each added a goal and an assist for Montpelier.
Lauren Shepheard made 16 saves for Montpelier and Emily Koetsier stopped 36 shots for Woodstock.
"Everyone got a lot of ice time, and Lauren did a nice job in net even though she didn't get a lot of shots," Montpelier coach Chris Turley said. "A lot of the new players got to get out there and show their stuff. Anna Hartman, she just was on fire tonight, being aggressive and getting in the mix. Erin of course did her thing. The thing I'm really happy about is we're seeing more depth and our confidence is really showing."
Montpelier ( 8-2) plays at Harwood on Saturday.
Woodstock falls to 1-8.
WRESTLING
Spaulding 49, Harwood 6
Spaulding 60, CVU 6
HINESBURG – Spaulding lost just one bout in Wednesday's dual meet at CVU, easily beating Harwood 49-6 and CVU 60-6.
The Crimson Tide recorded 11 pins out of 14 total matches.
Against Harwood, Spaulding's Cody Jolley defeated Sam Gray at 112 pounds, Kyle Corbell defeated Cory Roya at 119 pounds, Andy Gurin defeated Jordan Grout in 30 seconds at 125 pounds, Artie Busano defeated Carl James in 24 seconds at 152 pounds, Evan Bilodeau defeated Makhmoud Kachaliyev at 160 pounds, Steve Rich defeated Jacob Kernan in 5:29 at 171 pounds, Taylor Dorsett defeated Henry Woodard at 189 pounds, Jared Rich defeated Kyle Streeter at 189 pounds and Adam Reed defeated Troy Mullins at 285 pounds.
Against CVU, Jolley, Roya, Gurin, Damian Mason, Busano, Bilodeau, Steve Rich, Dorsett, Taylor Lozier, Jared Rich and Reed all recorded wins.
"Taylor Dorsett, against CVU, he had a tough match against a kid who's been doing well at 171, and he beat the kid 3-0," Spaulding coach Dave Fournier said of Dorsett's match with Sam Fortin. "The kid had won a couple tournaments so that was a big win for Taylor."
Spaulding travels to the West Springfield Duals in Massachusetts this weekend.
NORDIC SKIING
U-32 wins Night Relays
MONTPELIER – The U-32 cross-country ski team made it a clean sweep at Wednesday's Montpelier Night Relays.
Charlie Hoffert, Ben Merrylees and Noah Comen joined forces to win the boys race in 21 minutes, 42 seconds, while fellow Raiders Chelsea Evans, Larissa Kehne and Nell Davis won the girls race in 24:30.
Harwood also put forth a strong showing, with Patrick Markely, Simon Butler and Tim Shepard placing second in the boys race in 23:01. Close behind were U-32's Ethan Evans, Kevin Bond and Colin Nealon (23:48), while Montpelier's Noah Carnahn, Chris Keller and Liam McSweeney placed fourth in 24:12. Peoples Academy's Danny Stames, Camden Waller and Jake Dougher came in fifth in 24:42.
On the girls' side, Stowe's Lia Van Dyke and Maggie McGovern went without the services of a third skier and still placed second in 25:34. Harwood's Julienne Vergura, Haley Robinson and Jillian Mendes finished third in 27:47, Peoples Academy's Mary Fafard Seline Deciuces and Dana Bourne were fourth (28:48) and Harwood's Chelsea Robinson, Jessa Sargent and Kate Stevens placed fifth (34:21).
MEN'S COLLEGE
BASKETBALL
Norwich 74, Skidmore 71
NORTHFIELD – Sophomore Antonio Davis pumped in a game-high 21 points, and junior Quincy Williams chipped in 14 points off the bench as the Norwich University men's basketball team beat Skidmore College 74-71 on Wednesday.
Davis, who also grabbed nine rebounds, shot 8 of 11 from the field to help the Cadets (6-3) snap their brief two-game losing streak. Senior Israel Guardado posted nine points and nine rebounds, while sophomore Darell Marshall added nine points on 9 of 10 shooting from the free-throw line.
Norwich led 69-60 with 2:19 to play, but the Cadets had to withstand a furious Skidmore run down the stretch to secure the victory. Jeff Altimar's deep 3-pointer, which capped the Thoroughbreds' 11-3 spurt, trimmed the Cadets' lead to 72-71 with 10 seconds remaining. Marshall, who made 7 of 8 free throws in the final 2:19, calmly stroked two shots from the charity stripe to move NU's lead to three points. Altimar got a decent look at a game-tying 3-pointer from the right wing in the final seconds, but he fired up an air ball just before the buzzer sounded.
Norwich will resume its Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) schedule on Saturday when the Cadets travel to New Haven, Conn., to face Albertus Magnus College at 3 p.m.
Johnson State College 72, New England College 64
HENNIKER, N.H. – Johnson State's Leandro Martinez scored 25 of his game-high 27 points in the second half to lift the Badgers over New England College 72-64 in men's basketball on Wednesday. With the win the Badgers improve to 4-6 overall, while the loss drops the Pilgrims 5-7.
The Pilgrims built their lead to 16 in the opening minutes of the second half before the Badgers used an 18-4 run to trail 49-48 with 6:21 left in regulation. Martinez gave Johnson its first lead since early in the first half, hitting a 3-pointer and then a layup to put the Badgers up 65-63 with 2:00 left to play.
The Badgers went go 5 for 5 from the foul line in the final minutes to solidify the 72-64 final.
Johnson State's Nate Dodge of Burlington finished with 15 points.
Eric Lenahan scored 20 points and had five rebounds for NEC.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
New England College 73, Johnson State 58
HENNIKER, N.H. – New England College guard Jenny Bronson of Morgan scored her 1,000th point in the final minute of the game as the Pilgrims defeated Johnson State College Badgers 73-58 in women's basketball Wednesday. The win is the Pilgrims' fourth straight improving their overall record to 7-5. The loss drops the Badgers to 3-5 overall.
The Pilgrims lead 14-0 after 6:00 of play. The Badgers used an 11-4 run midway through the half to trail by four with 4:55 remaining in the half. The Pilgrims led 38-29 at the half.
Johnson's Andrea Deuell of Milton and Maria Gleason of Enosberg got the Badgers back in it as they each hit a layup cutting the NEC lead to 62-54. That is as close as the Badgers got as the Pilgrims held on for the 73-58 victory.
Bronson finished with a game-high 21 points, 12 rebounds and five assists. Rachel Williams chipped in 17 points and 10 rebounds, while Kendall Wolfson finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Pilgrims.
Gleason finished with a team-high 19 points and three assists. Johnson's Claudia Martineau of Washington was the only other Badger in double-figures finishing with 11 points and a team-high six rebounds.
