STAMFORD (AP) — A Vermont man has been charged with grand larceny for allegedly cutting $40,000 worth of trees on somebody else's property without permission.
Vermont State Police say Robert Kobelia of Bennington, the owner of Northeast Wood Products, is scheduled to appear in court Jan. 26.
According to police, a couple who live in Connecticut received bids from Kobelia and other loggers to have their Stamford property harvested. Police say the couple ultimately decided not to harvest their timber, but that Kobelia went ahead and cut the trees anyway.
Police say Kobelia told them he thought he had a verbal agreement to cut the trees, but also acknowledged that he never paid for the timber.
