RANDOLPH — The Chandler Center for the Arts Centennial Project needs your help — today.
"Generous supporters have brought us so close to our $3.2 million fund-raising goal. Only $25,000 more is needed to meet the Raise the Curtain! Challenge that will get us there," said Board President Janet Watton.
By the ground-breaking last June, $2.85 million had been committed to the project by private and public sources, including a $250,000 HUD grant arranged by Sen. Patrick Leahy via the Preservation Trust of Vermont's Village Revitalization Program. This left just under $350,000. To fill this gap, several friends challenged Chandler to raise $175,000 in new gifts and pledges by Dec. 31, which the friends will match if the challenge is met.
Campaign co-chair Linda Morse notes that since then, $150,000 in additional commitments have been made. "We will meet this challenge if people include Chandler in their year-end giving."
Construction is well under way: behind the Music Hall, a retaining wall has been erected, an emergency access road has been built, and the steel framework for the 4,000-square-foot addition is nearly finished. Inside, the Gallery basement has been stripped down, pipes laid, a slab poured, and the walls and the new grand staircase roughed-in for the new restroom suite and community studio space, all scheduled to be ready by January 2010.
People can donate by mailing checks to Chandler at 71-73 Main St. in Randolph, or calling 728-9878, or by making a Web gift at chandler-arts.org.
