Mother, daughter charged in drug bust

BRATTLEBORO (AP) — Vermont State Police say a woman and her daughter have been charged with dealing heroin and cocaine after being caught with big quantities of both during a traffic stop in Brattleboro.
Forty-two-year-old Melissa Davis and 19-year-old Haley Colburn, both of Royalton, were the focus of a two-month investigation before being arrested Monday on Interstate 91.
Troopers seized 238 bags of heroin and 53 grams of crack cocaine and charged both with trafficking in heroin and sale of crack cocaine, in addition to other charges.
Detective Sgt. John Merrigan says the two have been involved in the crack cocaine and heroin trade in Windsor County. Further charges are pending in the town of Hartford.
2nd sex assault trial for Vt. doc moved to St. J
BURLINGTON (AP) — The second sexual assault trial of a Colchester orthopedic surgeon will be held in St. Johnsbury.
Vermont District Court Judge Patricia Zimmerman ruled that an impartial jury in the case of Dr. Joseph Abate could not be seated in Chittenden county.
Abate is a facing sexual assault charges that he improperly touched the groin area of a patient he was supposed to be examining for a knee problem.
Abate's first trial involved seven patients who claimed they had been improperly touched by the doctor. That case ended in a mistrial in May.
The Burlington Free Press says Abate's second trial is due to get under way Jan. 18.
