WATERBURY – A Waterbury Center man was arrested for driving under the influence Saturday night after police say he flipped his vehicle onto its side in a one-car accident on Gregg Hill Road in Waterbury.
Police responded to the scene of the accident after a passerby reported seeing a car on its side off of Gregg Hill Road. Police say the driver, David S. Roggensack, 39, left his vehicle to walk to the nearest service station to get a tow. Police were on the scene when Roggensack returned with the tow-truck driver.
Roggensack told police he lost control of his car after hitting an icy spot, and further investigation, police say, revealed that he had consumed alcohol prior to the crash.
A breath test administered by police at the scene of the accident indicated that Roggensack's blood-alcohol level was above the legal limit. He was issued a citation and is scheduled to answer to the charge of DUI in Vermont District Court in Barre on Dec. 31.
