NORWICH (AP) — A group devoted to protecting the Connecticut River and its tributaries is looking for volunteers to help watch over the waterways.
David Deen of the Connecticut River Watershed Council says with cutbacks at state environmental agencies, it's more important than ever that citizens step in to monitor potential environmental threats.
A training session is being offered this Thursday at Tracy Hall in Norwich for people interested in joining the effort. Those wishing to attend can call Deen at 802-869-2792.
Deen says plans are to expand the volunteer monitoring program south to Massachusetts and Connecticut, if funds can be raised to organize it there.
