MARLBORO (AP) — The Vermont town of Marlboro has rejected a proposal to install new power poles and power lines along a rural road where a new property owner wants them.

In a Nov. 12 decision, the Marlboro Selectboard denied the request by Central Vermont Public Service. By law, the utility must provide service to anyone who seeks it, but CVPS needed the town's permission, in this case because neighboring landowners couldn't reach agreement.

The board's chairman, Craig Hammond, says the petition was denied because there's no pressing need to run power along the public right of way on Cow Path 40 since landowner Kate Morgan plans to use solar power and only wants electricity as a back-up.

Morgan is upset about the decision, saying town officials heard only one side of the story before deciding.
