Hoelzl takes Aspen giant slalom race

ASPEN, Colo. — Kathrin Hoelzl of Germany has won a giant slalom for her first World Cup victory.
The 2008 world champion in the GS led after the first run and used that advantage to edge runner-up Kathrin Zettel of Austria. Federica Brignone of Italy was third.
Hoelzl finished the two runs in an unofficial total time of 2 minutes, 9.63 seconds. Zettel was 0.24 back, the only competitor within a second of the winner.
Reigning Olympic giant slalom champion Julia Mancuso of Olympic Valley, Calif., was the top American finisher, placing 13th in an unofficial time of 2:12.79.
Lindsey Vonn of Vail, Colo., was 39th in the first run and did not qualify for the second run.
