WAITSFIELD — The Washington County Sheriff's Department has issued several criminal citations and referred four minors to the Teen Alcohol Safety Program after an investigation into underage drinking that began on Oct. 30 in Waitsfield.
On that date, a sheriff's deputy saw two people leave the Shaw's grocery store in Waitsfield with a large amount of alcohol in a grocery cart, the sheriff's department said in a news release. Those two people were identified as Jessica A. Brisco, 30, of Moretown and Jessica K. Smith, 19, of Waitsfield, said police.
Brisco and Smith rolled the cart to a juvenile's vehicle and the juveniles loaded it inside, police said.
Police say Brisco then went into the Irasville General Store with a juvenile and bought more alcohol.
The sheriff's deputy then stopped the vehicle on Bragg Hill Road and seized the alcohol, police said.
Brisco and Smith were cited to appear in Vermont District Court in Barre on Dec. 17 to face charges of contributing to the delinquency of minors and furnishing malt beverages to minors, the sheriff's department said.
A 17-year-old that police did not name dropped a bag containing 3.7 grams of marijuana onto the floor of the sheriff's department and was cited into court to face a charge of possession of marijuana, the news release said.
