National Forest land buy gets Arlington board's OK

ARLINGTON (AP) – The town of Arlington is backing a plan by the Green Mountain National Forest to buy 812 acres of land from a timber company.
The Arlington selectboard voted 3-1 to approve the sale between the Meadowsend Timber and the U.S. Forest Service.
The Bennington Banner says the only condition the town placed on its approval was for the Forest Service to find a way to ensure public access from the back side of the parcel.
Manchester District Ranger Alex Sinkiewicz says the Forest Service doesn't need the town's approval for the sale, but that when property within a town is purchased, officials seek community approval.
The Green Mountain National Forest is made up of more than 400,000 acres in central and southern Vermont.
