BURLINGTON – The former manager of a now-defunct Montpelier property management firm, who is facing federal fraud and embezzlement charges, has been granted more time prepare his case.
James Pumpelly, who managed Parkside Property Management of Montpelier, now has until February to file pre-trial motions.
Pumpelly's public defender, Elizabeth Mann, filed a request for more time Monday and prosecutors did not oppose the request.
In her filing, Mann said the extra time was needed to review the contents of eight computers that were seized during the investigation of Pumpelly.
Judge Garvan Murtha granted the request on Tuesday.
Pumpelly, 62, has pleaded innocent to five charges of defrauding Parkside's clients, the federal government, banks and others. The accusations include a charge he kept $75,000 in Section 8 housing money he wasn't entitled to. He was indicted last February and arrested in March after a lengthy investigation by federal and local authorities.
