BARRE – A 47-year-old Barre woman pleaded innocent to domestic assault and unlawful restraint on Wednesday for allegedly hitting another woman and handcuffing her to a bed.
Robin L. Seaman, who was arrested after police responded to a 911 call at 3 a.m. on Wednesday, was released on conditions after entering her plea in Vermont District Court in Barre.
The alleged victim told police that Seaman hit her and handcuffed her to a bed against her will with a fan blowing towards her that made her cold. Seaman was planning to take her to New York City, the alleged victim told police, and threatened to chain her "up like an animal the whole time."
The alleged victim said she hid her phone under the bed and called 911.
Seaman admitted that she handcuffed the woman to the bed, according to the police affidavit.
Unlawful restraint is a felony while the domestic assault charge is a misdemeanor. Combined, they carry a potential prison sentence of more than six years in jail.
