WATERBURY – Police cited a 20-year-old Morrisville man on Wednesday for an alleged assault that was captured on surveillance video at a Waterbury gas station on Nov. 7.

Eric J. Merriam-Perre is scheduled to appear in Vermont District Court in Barre on Dec. 17 to answer to a charge of aggravated assault.

Merriam-Perre is accused of punching 53-year-old Ted Brunell, of Moretown, in the face and then kicking him after Brunell fell to the ground outside the Champlain Farms on Route 100 on Nov. 1 at about 12:30 a.m.

Brunell's jaw was broken in several places and required reconstructive surgery, police said.

Waterbury Police Chief Joby Feccia said the department received help identifying Merriam-Perre from people who saw images captured by surveillance cameras that were published by the local media.

Morristown police helped locate Merriam-Perre, and Feccia met with the accused at the Morristown Police Department.

WHAT A JOKE! I cannot believe that the Waterbury police are actually pursuing this. Brunell slapped him twice for no reason and got knocked out for it. done deal. and after watching the video the kid hardly kicked brunell at all when he was down, just enough to stop the attempted assault. So apparently in Waterbury you can slap people around at will and then, if you get your butt kicked for it,the other person you assaulted first gets in trouble.

Talk about incorrect enforcement of the laws. The good ole buddy buddy system is hard at work in this case between the cops and a local business owner.
