DUXBURY – Voters from the six towns that send their students to Harwood Union Middle and High School will be asked to approve a $1.1 million bond on Tuesday.
The money would fund improvements at the school that school board members say are sorely needed.
The voting will take place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at polling places in Fayston, Waitsfield, Warren, Waterbury, Moretown and Duxbury.
School board chairman Scott Mackey said on Sunday that he's hopeful the bond will pass.
"I think we've been trying to spread the word, and I think most people who have been up to the school recently know the driveway and parking lot have been falling apart, and we've got the worst soccer fields in the state, according to soccer officials," Mackey said.
The money would fund a punch list of improvements to school infrastructure, most of which has been in use since the school was built in 1965, school officials said.
The bond includes $500,000 to repave the parking lot, $175,000 for a new sports field, and $126,000 for roof repairs, among other improvements.
The school board timed the bond to take advantage of possible no- or low-interest loans made available as part of the federal stimulus package.
