MANCHESTER (AP) — One Vermont group has celebrated the International Day of Climate Action by planting an apple tree to mark the sale of 350 fruit trees to residents in Manchester.
Transition Town Manchester, a group that promotes locally grown food and environmental awareness, planted the tree Saturday. It was donated by local partner Mettowee Mill Nursery. The 350 apple, peach, pear, plum and cherry trees will be planted by volunteers in the spring.
Organizers of climate action-related events over the weekend say the number 350 is the level to which atmospheric carbon dioxide emissions, measured in parts per million, should be lowered to prevent dangerous climate change.
