ROCHESTER – A pair of Massachusetts men were charged Friday with robbing a bank in Rochester on Thursday.
Vermont State Police said Daryl Williams, 49, and Andrew Dion, 41, both of Springfield, Mass., worked together to execute the morning robbery of the Randolph National Bank branch on North Main Street.
The two men were arrested in Springfield, Mass., by police in that community — Williams on Thursday night, Dion early Friday.
Williams and Dion are also linked to a bank robbery in Connecticut on Oct. 10, police said.
State police said Friday that Williams entered the bank while Dion waited behind the wheel of a stolen black Honda Civic, which police said they found Friday abandoned in the Walgreen's parking lot in Rutland.
A Springfield detective said Friday evening that authorities in Massachusetts arrested Williams after receiving a tip that he was back in town. Dion was taken into custody later Friday at a motel in Springfield.
Neither man resisted arrest and no weapons were found on either man, but the detective said police found money on Williams with serial numbers that matched bills taken during the robbery.
Springfield police believe Williams and Dion got a ride back from an individual who has not been charged.
State police couldn't be reached for comment Friday evening. In a statement released late in the day, Vermont state police said the investigation is "rapidly evolving" and "no more information will be provided" until the investigation progresses.
Police said Williams entered and robbed the bank at 9:36 a.m. Thursday. While he didn't display a weapon, police said he did keep his hand in his pocket during the robbery.
The bank teller gave cash to Williams, who allegedly left the bank and fled north on foot. Moments later he was seen in the passenger's seat of the Honda Civic traveling south on Route 100. There were no customers in the bank at the time and nobody was injured.
