WORCESTER – The community of Worcester is holding a celebration today to mark the reopening of the upstairs of the Town Hall.
The second story of the two-story building in the village has been closed for several years because it didn't meet safety codes and was not handicapped accessible.
Grants from the Vermont Community Development Program, the Cultural Facilities Program, a Polling Place Accessibility Grant, and a Village Revitalization Grant via Sen. Patrick Leahy's office and the Preservation Trust enabled the town to complete the $112,000 renovations to bring the building fully up to code.
Included in the work were the installation of a full sprinkler system, a platform lift, an accessible bathroom, wheelchair ramps for the stage and the front porch, automatic front door openers, and an electrical system upgrade.
Today's celebration gets under way at 4 p.m. and will feature music, story telling and a potluck supper. The event is free, but attendees are asked to bring canned food donations for the Worcester Food Shelf.
