MORRISVILLE – A Vermont teacher is scheduled to appear in court today to face charges of sexual assault and lewd and lascivious conduct for allegedly victimizing two boys who were once his fifth grade students.
Police arrested 28-year-old Shaun C. Bryer of Morrisville after the two boys — who are now 14 years old — spoke to investigators on Friday.
Most of the alleged sex crimes took place over the past three years in Bryer's Morrisville apartment, according to police.
Bryer admitted that the accusations of sexual misconduct were true, according to a news release from the Lamoille Unit for Special Investigations.
"Bryer admitted to the numerous lewd acts on both boys as well as sexually assaulting one of the boys several times," the news release stated.
The two boys approached authorities because Bryer is now a fifth grade teacher in another school district and they were worried about other possible victims, said police.
Police did not say where Bryer has been a teacher. School officials and police could not be reached for comment Sunday.
Police only identified the boys as residents of Lamoille County.
After he was arrested, Bryer was lodged in the Chittenden Regional Correctional Facility for lack of $250,000 bail. He is scheduled to be arraigned on the charges in Vermont District Court in Hyde Park on Monday at 1 p.m. If Bryer fails to make bail, however, the arraignment will be in Vermont District Court in Burlington because he was lodged in South Burlington.
