WETHERSFIELD – A crash involving three vehicles around noon on Interstate 91 sent a Montpelier man to the hospital on Saturday, according to the Vermont State Police.

Police said they believed David Fiske, 56, of Montpelier, was driving south in a 2003 Ford pickup on Interstate 91 in Wethersfield when he lost control and drove through the median before coming to a stop in the northbound lane.

Charles Wheeler, 63, of Dover, who was driving a 2005 Toyota Highlander, stopped to help Fiske and the occupants of the pickup when his sports utility vehicle was hit from behind by a 1995 Jeep Cherokee driven by Christopher Chapman, 20, of South Royalton.

Police said Fiske and the occupants of his pickup truck were taken to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H., for treatment and that the others involved in the crash suffered only very minor injuries.

The northbound lanes of Interstate 91 were shut down for several minutes while the crash was cleaned up.
