Newport driver charged in fatal crash

NEWPORT (AP) — A Newport man has pleaded not guilty to charges in a fatal hit-and-run accident, that killed one pedestrian and injured another.
Twenty-nine-year-old Michael Lucier is charged with leaving the scene of a fatal crash.
Police say Lucier drove his truck off a road in North Troy last week and hit 21-year-old Bethany McAlister of Hyde Park and 17-year-old Alyssa Burns of Newport.
McAlister was later declared dead at North Country Hospital in Newport; Burns suffered broken bones and cuts.
Police say Lucier left the scene and was arrested after getting into another accident. He was processed for driving under the influence of alcohol.
