Chakvetadze ousts Petrova at Pilot Pen

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Anna Chakvetadze ended Nadia Petrova's final hardcourt tuneup for the U.S. Open with a 0-6, 7-6 (4), 6-4 win Sunday in the Pilot Pen.
After being utterly blanked in the first set, Chakvetadze held off Petrova's late charge in the third set to upset No. 4 seed.
In another first-round match, Alona Bondarenko defeated wild-card entry Meghann Shaughnessy, 4-6, 6-3, 7-5. Sidelined more than five months this season with a left knee injury, Shaughnessy has played only four matches this year and has lost them all.
