WILLIAMSTOWN – A 30-year-old Graniteville man was taken to the hospital and processed for driving under the influence of alcohol on Sunday evening after his car spun off the road in Williamstown, according to the Vermont State Police.
James Hood was taken by a family member to Central Vermont Medical Center with minor head lacerations and a dislocated shoulder following the crash, which took place at about 7:08 p.m. on Graniteville Road, police said in a news release.
Hood was driving south on Graniteville Road when his rear tires locked up, police said. His 2003 Ford truck began to spin around and then went off the road and into some trees. The truck suffered major damage to the driver's side and front bumper, said police.
Hood refused to provide a breath sample and was given a citation for DUI. He is scheduled to appear in Vermont District Court in Chelsea on Aug. 12 to face the charge. Hood was wearing his seatbelt and the road conditions were dry at the time of the accident, said police.
