EDEN – A Hyde Park man faces first-degree aggravated domestic assault and an assortment of other charges stemming from a bizarre incident that allegedly involved his ex-girlfriend and their 20-month-old daughter over the weekend.
Scott Tallman, 26, was arrested late Saturday night following what was initially reported as a hit-and-run accident on North Road in Eden.
Police, who were summoned to the scene at 11:30 p.m., found a 19-year-old female lying unresponsive on the side of the road being tended to by emergency personnel when they arrived.
Police did not identify the woman, but said she was described by witnesses as Tallman's ex-girlfriend. According to police, the two were allegedly engaged in an argument over their daughter at the time of the incident.
Police said witnesses claimed the argument escalated to the point where Tallman drove off while the woman was attempting to take her child out of his car. The woman, who was reportedly partially inside the rear passenger portion of the vehicle at the time, was dragged approximately 200 feet along North Road before Tallman allegedly "pushed her out," they said.
According to police, the woman was taken to Copley Hospital with undetermined injuries and Tallman was arrested a short time later at his residence on Will Grimes Road in Hyde Park.
Tallman, who was held at St. Johnsbury Correctional Center for lack of $1,000 bail over the weekend, is expected to be charged with first-degree aggravated domestic assault, reckless endangerment, cruelty to a child and grossly negligent operation when he is arraigned.
