Barre #1 earns big win over Clyde Whittemore

BARRE – Wyatt Morrison started and pitched the first four innings as Barre #1 earned a 20-9 win over Clyde Whittemore on Saturday in the Barre 9-10 Little League All-Star tournament at Spaulding High School.
Robin Hartzell, Jake Couture and Leo DePrato all had triples for Barre, which scored six runs in each of the last two innings to break open an 8-7 ballgame.
Jonathan Zacharias pitched for Clyde Whittemore.
The top three teams out of the West Pool of District IV will advance to the District Finals in Lyndonville later this month,
Central Valley 9, Barre #2 5
BARRE – Central Valley rallied from a 4-0 deficit to earn a 9-5 win over Barre #2 in the Barre 9-10 Little League All-Star tournament at Spaulding High School on Saturday.
Riley Sutton pitched for Barre #2, which also got a triple from Niko Tillas.
Robert Barlow pitched for Central Valley, which got a triple from Harper Wimble.
Central Valley topped Northfield 11-7 earlier this week.
Mad River 5, Northfield 3, susp.
BARRE – Saturday's game between Mad River and Northfield in the 9-10 Little League All-Star tournament at Spaulding High School was suspended in the third inning and will be completed on Monday.
Eric Gerdes is on the mound for Northfield and Lucas Baron is pitching for Mad River, which is ahead 5-3.

KEENE, N.H. — The Vermont Mountaineers won 7-0 in 6 innings to the Keene Swamp Bats at Alumni Field on Saturday in New England Collegiate Baseball League action.
The Vermont Mountaineers got another brilliant pitching performance from ace Rob Kumbatovic, as he earned his league-leading fifth win of the season.
Vermont got on the board in the first when Tadd Bower scored on an error by the Swamp Bats' Ryan Terry. The sharply hit ball of the bat of Jake Williams gave the Mountaineers a 1-0 lead.
Henry Dunn led off the third with a single and moved to second on another error by Terry.
He advanced to third on a passed ball and scored on a sacrifice fly by Jantzen Witte to make it 2-0 Vermont.
In the third, Jake Williams reached on an error by Keene second baseman Jared King.
Kevin Vance smacked his team-leading third home run of the season over the left field wall off Swamp Bats starter Corey Baker.
The two-run shot gave Vermont a 4-0 lead and brought Vance up to 12 RBIs on the season.
The Mountaineers added three more runs in the fifth, highlighted by a bases-loaded double from Nick Martinez, for a 7-0 lead.
Kumbatovic pitched five shutout innings, allowing just two hits, walking two and striking out a pair to improve to 5-0 on the season.
Clay Jones, Steven Rosado, and Nick Martinez all had multi-hit games for the Mountaineers. Rosado extended his hitting streak to six games.
The game was called in the bottom of the sixth with a runner on first and nobody out due to lightning and was followed by rain.
The Mountaineers return home today to take on the Holyoke Blue Sox at Montpelier's Recreation Field at 6:30 p.m.

MONTPELIER – The Montpelier Post 3 Legion baseball team dropped a pair of games to S.D. Ireland on Saturday, losing the first 9-0 and the second 6-2.
Corey Richardson pitched the first three-plus innings of the first game and took the loss.
Teammate Ryan Dell'Amico tallied two of Montpelier's three hits in that game.
Cody Farrell took the loss in the second game, throwing into the fourth inning. Dell'Amico had two more hits in the second game and teammate David Maxfield added a double.
S.D. Ireland scored five runs in the fourth inning to break the game open.
"We just didn't hit today very well and it's really hard to be successful in this league without getting hits," Montpelier coach J.B. McCarthy said.
Montpelier falls to 5-6 and plays a double header with the O.E.C. Kings in Lyndon today.
