FERRISBURG — A Vermont man faces charges after police say he broke into a house occupied by an off-duty officer, who subdued him.
Vermont State Police say 45-year-old Ricky Stearns of Ferrisburg kicked in the front door of a home at the Basin Harbor Club in Ferrisburg before dawn Saturday and charged at a man inside.
It turned out the man was a New Jersey police officer. Investigators say Officer Thomas Ringer of Metuchen, N.J., quickly incapacitated and subdued the intruder.
Stearns was charged with trespassing and unlawful mischief. Police say his blood-alcohol level was twice the legal limit.
