MONTPELIER (AP) — Vermont's air quality is better than that in many parts of the United States, but could be better still.
That's one finding from a nationwide study of air quality by the federal Environmental Protection Agency.
The Burlington Free Press reports that within the state, Chittenden and Rutland counties were found to have the highest levels of toxic chemicals in the air, but they were still below pollution levels in major metropolitan areas like New York and Los Angeles.
Dick Valentinetti, chief of the state's air quality division, says Vermont's air is cleaner than in most places, but is still not risk-free.
