MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) — Investigators have confirmed that a 1-year-old Manchester, N.H., boy died of smoke inhalation but are still working to determine the cause of Wednesday night's fatal fire.

The house fire was too intense at first for firefighters to attempt to rescue Javen White, who lived in the house with his mother and two other children. Investigators said Friday the baby died of smoke inhalation, and that they're focusing their efforts on the second floor of the home, where the fire started.

The New Hampshire Union Leader says authorities also are determining whether there were working smoke detectors in the building.
