Energy future panel discussion to be held in Waitsfield

WAITSFIELD – Several state political and energy experts will gather this evening at Big Picture to discuss Vermont's energy future.
With Vermont Yankee scheduled to close down in 2012 and the Vermont legislature considering whether or not to grant a 20-year license extension, a panel is being brought together to discuss the political, health, economic and environmental implications of this decision.
The event begins at 6 p.m. at Big Picture Theater, 68 Carroll Road (just off Route 100), in Waitsfield.
Five panelists are scheduled to speak. Scientist and entrepreneur Bill Parker will be moderating the free public forum event that includes the following panelists.
Representative Adam Greshin, Independent, Washington – 1, who has completed his first legislative term, is scheduled to speak about the legislative process framing the upcoming 2010 Vermont Yankee re-licensing vote. Arnie Gundersen, Vermont Yankee Oversight Nuclear Engineer, is an expert witness to governmental boards and legislative committees and has reviewed hundreds of thousands of pages regarding the plant's uprate application, decommissioning fund and life extension.
Nancy Chickering, MD, a member of Physicians for Social Responsibility, will give her perspective on the health effects and safety of the industry. VPIRG's Clean Energy Advocate James Moore is a lobbyist who leads the public interest group's energy-related advocacy efforts in the Statehouse. Lawrence Mott, managing director for New Generation Partners, brings to the table 24 years of experience in the application of cutting edge wind and solar technologies.
