PLAINFIELD – Three people face various charges of assault after an alleged drug deal went bad.
Police say when three men who sought treatment at Central Vermont Medical Center Thursday night were questioned, police discovered they had been in a fight in Plainfield. While police were questioning the victims, the three accused assailants arrived at the hospital.
Melinda Carpentier, 19, of Cabot is charged with aggravated assault. Mindy Garneau, 20, of Barre is charged with aggravated assault and unlawful mischief and Travis Farrell, 20, of Cabot is charged with attempted aggravated assault.
When two men, who were allegedly looking to purchase marijuana from Carpentier, ran off with the goods without paying, a fight ensued, according to police. The would-be purchasers, with a third male, and the three accused met in a parking lot near the recycle center in Plainfield.
There, one of the would-be purchasers and the third male were struck in the head with bats and metal pipes by Garneau and Carpentier. Farrell attempted to run one of the men over with a vehicle and Garneau threw a metal pipe through the window of a victim's vehicle.
Carpentier, Garneau and Farrell are scheduled to appear in Vermont District Court in Barre to answer the charges. The incident is still under investigation.
