BARRE – A 63-year-old Duxbury man is accused of providing alcohol to minors, including one person who had to be taken to the hospital.

Stephen P. Anderson was cited to appear in Vermont District Court in Barre to face the charge of furnishing alcohol to minors after police busted an underage drinking party in Waterbury last month, according to a Washington County Sheriff's Department news release.

Officers from the Montpelier Police Department and the Sheriff's Department responded to a party on Ring Road in Waterbury on May 24 and found a 16-year-old who was highly intoxicated and required immediate medical attention, police said. The 16-year-old was taken to Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin.

Numerous other juveniles were referred to the Teen Alcohol Safety Program, and four 15-year-olds were given citations to appear in juvenile court for possession of alcohol.

When confronted, Anderson confessed to supplying another youth with the alcohol that ended up in the possession of the 16-year-old who was taken to the hospital, police said.

The underage bust comes on the heels of another incident in which a number of juveniles were referred to the teen alcohol safety program during the Harwood Union High School prom at Sugarbush, police said. In that incident, police found alcohol in several vehicles.

Investigations continue into both these matters and police expect to make additional arrests.

A few months in the cooler might serve this idiot well. Those who supply alcohol to minors are among the lowest of the low. It's the tactic of pedophiles, rapists, child abusers and imbeciles. Parents who supply their own kids with alcohol are bad enough but those who provide alcohol to other people's kids are no better than drug dealers and should be treated as such.
