DUXBURY – A dump truck driver had the ride of his life when his truck rolled off River Road down a steep bank and into a brook after the road in Duxbury gave way under the weight of the vehicle.

Norman J. Dube, 67, of Eden Mills was uninjured and able to climb out of the truck after the accident, according to police.

Dube was slowly driving north on River Road on Friday afternoon and had just passed another construction vehicle that was traveling in the other direction, a police investigation determined.

The extreme right of the gravel road crumbled and Dube was pulled to the right. Police said the truck slid down a bank and came to a rest on its side in a brook, losing some of the dirt and gravel it was carrying.

A hazardous material response team responded to see if any fluids had leaked into the brook, and the vehicle was inspected by the Department of Motor vehicles before being towed from the scene, police said. The accident is still under investigation.
