MIDDLEBURY (AP) — Middlebury College officials say the school's recent graduates face better job prospects than many of their peers, but it's still a struggle.

The National Association of Colleges and Employers estimates employment for the class of 2009 will be down by at least 22 percent nationally. Jay Roseborough, Middlebury's director of career services, puts that number at 10 percent for Middlebury graduates.

She said that the number of graduates going to graduate school from Middlebury is up about 4 percent, which is a reversal of the last few years. But that's a gamble, she said, because getting a master's degree and then applying for a job that doesn't require it could be a mark against the applicant.
