MENDON (AP) — A 96-room Mendon inn that closed last year after repeated outbreaks of Legionnaire's disease is going to be sold at auction.

The auction comes a year after the owners of the Cortina Inn filed for bankruptcy.

The Cortina Inn was closed last June after repeated outbreaks of the bacteria that causes Legionnaire's disease, a pneumonia-like illness.

At least three cases of the disease were linked to the inn.

The biggest stakeholder in the Mendon property is GE Commercial Mortgage Corp., which is owed more than $10 million.

The auction is scheduled for May 29.

Gear plant redevelopment gets $100k for cleanup

SPRINGFIELD (AP) — A plan to redevelop the Fellows Gear Shaper plant in Springfield is getting a boost of almost $100,000 in state funds.

The money will be used to help clean up contamination and pollution at the site.

Developer 100 River Street LLC wants to buy the plant from Precision Valley Development Corp. The deal is slated to go through once most of the contamination is cleaned up.

Bob Flint of Springfield Regional Development says the money will be used to remove two buildings and clean up other pollution.

Flint says the work is expected to start next month.

Most of the cleanup costs will be paid by the developers.
