BURLINGTON (AP) — The University of Vermont has agreed to pay $325,000 to the widow of a man killed in a car crash blamed on a participant in a drug study who fell asleep at the wheel.
The 2001 crash killed three men, including Lyman Dezotell, 44, of Jericho.
Dezotell's widow filed a suit accusing UVM researchers of negligence in allowing Theodore Pecor, 25, who was involved in testing buprenorphine, to drive home after taking a dose.
His vehicle crashed head-on with one carrying Lyman Dezotell, Kevin Baker of Coventry and Dean Fountain, of Newport. Pecor served three years in prison.
Details of the settlement were made public by UVM in response to a public records request by the Burlington Free Press.
