BURLINGTON (AP) — Federal prosecutors say a 74-year-old Quebec man is being held on marijuana smuggling charges after he was caught at the border carrying 54 pounds of marijuana in his vehicle.
The U.S. Attorney's office says Leonil Ledoux of Magog, Quebec, tried to enter the United States Thursday at the U.S. Route 5 border crossing in Derby Line when agents found the marijuana in one-pound bags.
If convicted, Ledoux could be sentenced to five years in prison and fined $250,000.
