WAITSFIELD – Three people were cited to appear in criminal court and three others were referred to the teen alcohol safety program after an underage drinking incident last month in Waitsfield.
Washington County Sheriff's Deputy James Wells stopped a pickup truck on Main Street in Waitsfield for erratic operation and found that the 17-year-old driver had a blood-alcohol level of .071. Police said two passengers in the truck, who were 16 and 18 years old, fled the scene.
The pair were later interviewed and referred to the teen alcohol safety program, because they dropped cans of beer as they fled, according to the sheriff's department. The driver was also referred to the program.
The investigation led authorities to another 16-year-old Moretown resident, who was cited to appear in court to face a charge of furnishing alcohol to minors. Anthony R. Fuoco, 18, of Moretown, was cited to appear in court for allegedly providing a place for the teens to drink at his parents' camp in Fayston, the sheriff's department said in a news release.
Jeremiah P. Erwin, 27, of Waterbury Center, an employee at the Irasville General Store, was given a criminal citation for selling alcohol to one of the 16-year-olds.
The matter has also been turned over to the Vermont Department of Liquor Control, which is still investigating, the sheriff's department stated.
