DUXBURY – Steve LaRock scored 27 points for the Harwood boys basketball team on Wednesday, keying a 56-43 victory over Lamoille.
"Steve had a great game," Harwood coach Ray Drake said. "He shot the ball well and managed the game well."
Joe Meade chipped in with 12 points for the Highlanders and teammate Tyler Hoare added seven points. Keith LaRose scored a team-high 11 points for the Lancers, who trailed 11-4 after the first quarter and faced a 24-15 deficit at halftime.
Lamoille falls to 8-11, while Harwood improves to 11-8 and will travel to play Randolph at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.

BFA-Fairfax 75, Northfield 50
NORTHFIELD – Seth Rebeor scored a team-high 23 points to pace BFA-Fairfax in Wednesday's 75-50 boys basketball victory over Northfield.
Cody Chamberlin led the way for the Marauders with 15 points, while teammates Jackson Diebold, Kevin Darling and Adam Daley scored nine points apiece. Danny Rowe and Gordon Wobby both scored four points for Northfield, which trailed 25-7 after the first quarter.
According to Marauder coach John Diebold, Ryan Flint made his varsity debut in the loss after playing on J.V. for much of the year.
"Ryan Flint played high school basketball for the first time this year and we asked if he would play at the J.V. level because we were short on numbers," Diebold said. "He's gained a lot of confidence and he was invited up for Senior Night against BFA-Fairfax."
Northfield falls to 5-14 and will travel to play Danville at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. BFA-Fairfax improves to 16-3.

STOWE – Jaren Scrubb erupted for 23 points and nabbed six steals in Stowe's 67-45 boys basketball victory over Danville on Wednesday.
Jon Smith chipped in with 18 points, nine rebounds and three steals for the Raiders, while teammate Liam Walsh had 11 points and 13 rebounds. Will Bleimeister added 10 points for Stowe, which jumped out to a 27-10 lead in the first quarter.
Tony Burrington (11 points) and Matt Chamberlain (eight points) led the way for the Indians, who fall to 11-7. Stowe improves to 10-9 and will travel to play Hazen at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.

Lake Region 50, Williamstown 33
WILLIAMSTOWN – Undefeated Lake Region snapped Williamstown's eight-game winning steak by rallying to a 50-33 win over the Blue Devils on Wednesday.
"We shot 3-for-24 from the field in the second half," Williamstown coach Adam Wheatley said. "If you shoot that against any team, you're not going to beat them, and we were playing an undefeated team. I thgouth holding the top team in the league to 50 points was pretty decent, but we struggled offensively in the second half"
Emmett Simspson and Richie Hackett both scored 17 points for the Rangers, who outscored the Blue Devils 16-6 in the third quarter and 11-2 in the final quarter.
Leading the way for Williamstown were Troy Laughlin (eight points), Steve Manwaring (six points) and Ray Burgos (six points).
Lake Region improves to 18-0, while Williamstown falls to 13-5 and will travel to play Hazen at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.

GIRLS BASKETBALL
Twin Valley 55, Green Mountain 42
WILMINGTON – Taryn Bolognani scored a career-high 32 points for Twin Valley as the Wildcats defeated Green Mountain 55-42 on Wednesday.
The final score was not indicative of the way the game went. According to Wildcat coach Buddy Hayford, the game was "nip and tuck pretty much till the end."
The game got especially dicey for Twin Valley when Green Mountain got to within one point early in the fourth quarter, trailing 38-37. The Wildcats, though, pushed forward, hitting nine out of 12 key free throws.
Devon Sperka tallied 15 point for the Wildcats in support of Bolognani's performance.
For Green Mountain, Chelsea Hawkins and Morgan Solomon both had nine points.
With the win, Twin Valley improves to 14-2. The Wildcats will travel to Manchester on Saturday to take on Burr and Burton.
Burr and Burton 61, Leland & Gray 17
MANCHESTER – Sawyer Devries dropped in 20 points to help keep Burr and Burton Academy undefeated.
Jumping out to a 17-3 first quarter lead, the Bulldog defense never let the Rebels have a chance to get any momentum.
Joining Devries in the thrashing was Jenna Hoffman who put up 16 points. For Leland & Gray, Rebeccah Bizon, Alyson Marcucci, and Bethany Robinson all scored four points.
Burr and Burton will host Twin Valley on Saturday.
Rochester 39, Cabot 30
ROCHESTER – The Rockets went 6-12 from the free throw line in the last quarter to preserve the 39-30 victory.
Midori Cruikshank had nine points and 13 rebounds for the Rockets, while Paityn Boyer added eight. For Cabot, Caitlin Celly threw in 11 points.
Rochester moves to 10-7 and will travel to South Royalton to take on the Royals on Friday.
Hartford 65, Woodstock 31
WHITE RIVER JUNCTION – Hartford's big third quarter led the Hurricanes past Woodstock.
With a lead of 30-20 at halftime, Hartford opened the game up in the third quarter with a 19-4 run.
"They really clamped down in the third, and we couldn't penetrate," said Woodstock coach Rob Chandler.
Hartford was led by Stephanie Parker's 15 points. Stacey Schellong dropped in 13, and Nikita Wilson and Sarah Illingworth added 10.
Blake Wardwell led the Wasps with nine points, six of which came in the first quarter.
Woodstock falls to 7-10 and will travel to Bellows Falls on Friday to take on the Terriers.
BOYS HOCKEY
CVU 8, Rutland 2
RUTLAND – Rob Dobrowski tallied three times to power CVU past Rutland.
Seniors Matt Merritt and James Cain scored the goals for the Raiders on Senior Night at Rutland Regional Fieldhouse.
CVU goalie Matt Albertson collected 17 saves and Rutland netminder Andrew Boyle had 37.
CVU is 10-6-2. The Raiders complete the regular season at 6-14.
Burr and Burton 13, Mount St. Joseph 2
RUTLAND – Luke Drabn, Ben Brownlee and Tyler Bovey scored two goals apiece to lead the 15-2-2 Burr and Burton Academy Bulldogs past Mount St. Joseph Academy.
BBA's Patrick Quinn had 12 saves and Mountie goalie Landon Akin had 35 stops.
North Country 7, Montpelier 3
NEWPORT – Taylor Pecue scored two goals to lead the way for North Country in Wednesday's 7-3 boys hockey victory over Montpelier.
"We came up with road legs and the first period was very ugly and they got three goals," Solon coach Andy Emerson said. "We started to get a little better in the second period, and in third period we were able to skate with them."
Shane Smith found the back of the net twice for Montpelier and teammate Daegan Goodman scored his first career varsity goal. Michael Goss and Derrick Chapin both tallied assists for the Solons and teammate Bennett Augustoni made 29 saves in goal
North Country improves to 13-6, while Montpelier falls to 3-15 and will face U-32 on Saturday at 8 p.m.
GIRLS HOCKEY
Montpelier 3, Mount Mansfield 2
MONTPELIER – Jessie Gay scored the winning goal late in the third period to give Montpelier girls hockey its first win in three games, a 3-2 victory over Mount Mansfield on Wednesday.
Erin Banfield scored twice for Montpelier, and Kaeli Dunn and Zion Keck both tallied assists.
Nicole Mendelson and Maura Spillane scored for Mount Mansfield with Katie Buxton and Abby Winterstein earning assists.
Mary Cain stopped 11 shots for the Solons, who honored their seniors – Dunn and Becca Starr – on Wednesday night.
Sara Till also made 11 saves for the Cougars.
Montpelier improves to 12-6 and closes out the regular season at Colchester on Saturday.
U-32 4, Colchester 1
MONTPELIER – Three players accounted for four goals as the U-32 girls ice hockey team topped Colchester 4-1 on Wednesday.
"Colchester is the No. 2 team in the state, so it was a pretty good upset," U-32 coach Dave Pickel said. "I felt it was the first time this year the girls played 45 minutes of dedicated hockey. They played above and beyond. They were amazing as a team tonight."
Esther Peterson scored twice and added an assist, Emily Aylward and Jyneva Pickel added single goals. Jyneva Pickel, Kelly Whitcomb and Alicia Danyew tallied single assists and teammate Katherine Kreis had two.
Anna Demasi scored the Lakers' lone goal unassisted.
Ashley Vincent finished with 15 saves for 11-7-1 U-32, which hosts Harwood on Saturday.
"Ashley had a shutout going into the final minute," coach Pickel said. "They scored with 1:10 left on the clock."
Brittany Rocheleau made 26 saves and teammate Gretchen St. Pierre had seven saves for the Lakers.
WOMEN'S COLLEGE BASKETBALL
UVM 73, UMBC 49
BALTIMORE, Md. – Vermont senior Amy Rosenkrantz scored a team-high 14 points, including her 1,000th career point, and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the Catamounts past UMBC, 73-49, at RAC Arena in America East women's basketball action on Wednesday.
Vermont improves to 13-10 overall and 7-3 in America East. The Catamounts also handed UMBC its first league loss at home (4-1) and just the second for the Retrievers on the year (8-2) as they fall to 12-11 overall and 3-6 in the conference.
Fisher College 47, VTC 41
RANDOLPH – Vermont Tech had a 21-20 lead at halftime, but was unable to hold it together in the second half.
VTC fought for the entire game, but according to coach Jim Sumner, the team "had a couple of key turnovers at the end of the game."
The Green Knights were led by Rochester's Jody Martin, who had 12 points, and West Rutland's Stacey Corey, who had 11 points.
With the loss, the Green Knights falls to 7-17. They will travel to Fort Kent to take on the University of Maine on Saturday.
MEN'S COLLEGE BASKETBALL
UVM 75, Boston University 47
BURLINGTON – Five Catamounts reached double figures as the University of Vermont men's basketball team took over sole possession of first place in the America East with a 75-47 victory over Boston University on Wednesday night at Patrick Gym.
Senior Mike Trimboli paced the Cats with 17 points and seven assists as they improve to 19-7 overall and 10-3 in league play.
The loss snaps an eight-game winning streak for the Terriers.
Vermont outscored Boston University (14-10 overall, 9-3 America East) 39-15 in the second half as the Catamounts have now won 10 of their last 11 games overall. Junior Marqus Blakely earned his third straight double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds, to go with four assists, four steals and three blocks.
"I thought it was a very good win, a great atmosphere and an important game for us. I thought our defense was excellent in the second half. Our guys were really focused and did a great job closing the game out and not letting up. It was a great team effort. I'm happy for our guys and I'm very, very proud of them because it has been a crazy stretch here," said Vermont coach Mike Lonergan.
Vermont led 50-42 with 12:43 left in the contest before going on a 25-5 run to end the game. The Catamounts shot 53.8 percent from the field and held Boston U to just six field goals in the second half.
The turning point in the game was with the Cats leading 43-39 Blakely had a lay-up and dunk on back-to-back possessions, then blocked BU's Marques Johnson in the open court on a fast-break which led to a Trimboli three on the other end.
In the first half the Cats trailed 17-7 after a three by BU's Jake O'Brien 8:33 in. Vermont used a 13-2 lead over the next 2:31, keyed by a pair of three's from junior Maurice Joseph to take their first lead of the game at 20-19. The Terriers led 27-24, but a 10-0 spurt by the Cats put them on top for good as they carried a 36-32 lead into the break.
Joseph and senior Colin McIntosh each added 13 for Vermont, while freshman Garvey Young rounded out the Cats in double figures with 10. Vermont shot 53.8 percent from the floor for the game and held a 23-12 rebounding edge in the second half.
Trimboli hit 6-of-8 from the floor overall and 4-for-5 from three, while his seven assists matched a season-high. With the win the Catamounts have now swept the Terriers, who were picked to finish first in the America East Preseason Coaches' Poll.
BU was led by 20 points from Corey Lowe and 14 from John Holland. The Terriers shot 38.3 percent for the game and only 26.1 percent in the second half, while committing 21 turnovers.
Vermont is next in action on Sunday when the Catamounts host Stony Brook at 1 p.m. as part of "Senior Day." Catamount seniors Jordan Dean, Ryan Shields, McIntosh and Trimboli will be honored prior to the contest.
