ROCHESTER — Vermont State Police issued a warning of a phone scam after a complaint from a Rochester resident.
More than one residence in the town received calls from a company named United Legal Investigation Bureau. A male with a thick foreign accent was the company representative, according to the police report.
In the incidents, the caller tells the resident he is investigating their Social Security number and needs a call back. Police were notified by one resident who received the call and reported it instead of returning the man's call.
Police warn the public to be wary of anyone trying to get personal financial information.
Unless you know the caller, do not give or confirm your bank accounts, Social Security number or other personal information. Hang up and call your local police.
To reach someone at the Vermont State Police Royalton barracks, call 234-9933.
