BRATTLEBORO (AP) — The Vermont Yankee nuclear power plant is back at full power after technicians fixed a pipe that had been leaking radioactive water.
Plant spokesman Rob Williams says the source of the leak in the reactor's feedwater system was traced to a faulty weld in a 10-inch wide test port off a 24-inch feed pipe.
Williams says the repairs were completed late Friday. The plant returned to full power on Saturday night.
The plant had reduced power production by 60 percent to repair the leak.
Williams says plant owner Entergy Nuclear will test similar welds like the one that sprung the leak, which was discovered Thursday during a routine inspection.
Neil Sheehan of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission says inspectors monitored the repairs.
River Valley Tech Center wants 1 percent increase
SPRINGFIELD (AP) — The board of the River Valley Technical Center in Springfield is going to ask voters for a budget increase of less than 1 percent.
Officials say declining enrollment and fiscal conservatism is what prompted the budget figure.
Last week the center's board proposed a budget of $2.9 million, just under $7,000 more than the current budget.
The full budget amount will appear on Town Meeting Day ballots for the 10 towns that make up the technical center district.
