WORCESTER – An early-morning fire in Worcester had devastating consequences for a family of four. They lost all of their possessions in the fire and two cats and a dog, according to a news release issued by the American Red Cross.

The four family members – two adults, a 3-year-old child, and an-18-month-old toddler – were treated and released from the hospital, the Red Cross said.

One dog survived the blaze.

Vermont State Police did not respond to the fire, according to Det. Sgt. Mark Galle, a state police fire investigator. He said state police respond when someone is seriously injured or the fire appears suspicious.

The fire was reported at 5:30 a.m. on Saturday morning at 223 Calais Road.

The Red Cross did not name the family members, but said they have a temporary place to stay.

Worcester Fire Chief Will Sutton could not be reached for this story.
