WAITSFIELD – A 21-year-old Waitsfield man is facing charges of 1st degree aggravated domestic assault after he threatened a roommate with a gun and reportedly fired a shot during an incident on Main Street late Saturday night.
State police in Middlesex received a report from Amy Torres, the mother of Ryan Torres, that her son was threatening to kill himself with a gun at his apartment in Waitsfield. State police arrived on scene along with a Washington County deputy sheriff and met with Jake Mostov, 23, who advised he was Torres' roommate and that Torres had pointed a gun at him in their apartment.
According to police, Mostov said he then left the residence and shortly after shutting the door, Torres fired a shot and Mostov said Torres was reportedly very intoxicated as well, police reported.
Troopers attempted contact with Torres several times via telephone but were unsuccessful and later learned that Torres was on the phone with crisis counselors. He was later talked out of the apartment and taken into custody without incident.
Torres was charged with 1st Degree Aggravated Domestic Assault and held at Chittenden County Correctional Facility on $10,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear in Vermont District Court in Barre today to answer the charges.
